iOS 27.2 and App Tracking Transparency: prepare enterprise apps in France and Belgium

Apple is introducing an alternative App Tracking Transparency prompt in the European Union beginning with iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2. In France, this alternative version will be the only one available; in Belgium, developers will have the choice announced for the EU. The requirements that determine when an app must request permission to track remain unchanged.

1. What Apple announced

In a news item published on September 16, 2026, Apple says developers will be able to use an alternative version of the ATT system prompt in the European Union. Apple links the change to agreements with selected European competition authorities.

The territorial distinction is important: for apps distributed in Germany, France, Italy, Poland, and Romania, only the alternative prompt will be available. Apple does not include Belgium in that list. The announcement does not remove ATT or change the circumstances in which tracking permission must be requested.

Apple also says the alternative interface changes the formatting and wording and offers an optional “Additional Information” button. In the EU, an app may present the system prompt again one year after the user’s previous choice, unless the user has disabled tracking requests globally in Settings.

2. Why organizations need to prepare

A business app, customer app, or third-party SDK may trigger ATT when its processing falls within Apple’s definition. A system-prompt wording change can affect acceptance-test screenshots, support journeys, privacy notices, service-desk scripts, and opt-in measurement.

This primarily concerns product, development, security, legal, and data-protection teams. MDM or Jamf can help deploy the correct app version and inventory devices, but it does not turn a consent request into an administrator decision.

3. What does this announcement change for a Belgian or French organization?

An organization operating in both countries should not assume that users will see exactly the same prompt. The French build must be tested with the mandatory alternative, while the Belgian strategy should confirm the developer’s selected option and its actual behavior. European subsidiaries covering the five countries named by Apple require the same local control.

For an SMB, the minimum is to identify affected apps and their owners. Mid-market organizations, large enterprises, and public bodies should connect SDK inventory, records of processing, App Store or private builds, legal review, and multilingual support.

4. Underside view: separate compliance, deployment, and user experience

Our view is that this change requires territory-based testing without altering the governance principle. Apple supplies the system prompt; the developer remains responsible for the app integration, and the organization must be able to explain what data is processed, why ATT appears, and what happens after either choice.

5. Recommended validation plan

• Inventory internal and public apps that call ATT, together with third-party SDKs that may trigger it.
• Test builds on iOS and iPadOS 27.2 in France and Belgium using representative accounts and distribution conditions.
• Verify journeys after both authorization and denial, without inferring consent from an MDM state.
• Align privacy text, screenshots, FAQs, and support procedures in French and English.
• Retain the app version, OS version, tested territory, and result as acceptance evidence.
• Have the regulatory assessment validated by the organization’s legal and data-protection owners.
